Prior to social media, it was rare for a teenager to write words that were read by millions. I’m proud to say I have that credit. Watching MTV for a week straight, raving about 90s New York City, writing the first major article about DJ culture, and flying around the world chasing stories, I had a blast.
That party didn’t last, as digital culture crashed my brand of journalism. But years later while living in Asia, I dipped back into the journo world and wrote features for Newsweek. For my final article, I covered the 2014 coup d’etat in Thailand. Having started as a revolutionary Gen X voice, it seems fitting to finish my run with a real live revolution.
